Just as you said it would be, Swala Camp was perfect. Exactly what we wanted. Our hosts Chris and Mina are very good at giving hospitality, and really know the Tarangire well.
Exaud, the guide whom you arranged, is the BEST guide in all of Africa! He is truly outstanding; he has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behaviour and where to look for them, and most important for me, he knows his birds.
His colleague John was also immensely helpful. He took us to a marvellous church service, got us to the plane on time, and rescued us when one of my group forgot her passport and another her pills at the Coffee Lodge. The people at the Coffee Lodge and at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge were also terrific.
Next time (and I hope there is one) I'll stay longer at Swala Camp. It really merits 4 or 5 days at least. We had lions coming right in to camp while we were having dinner at the campfire under a canopy of brilliant stars with red-robed young Masai ascaris calmly leaning on their spears and telling us not to worry. It doesn't get any better.
