Discovery trip in Guatemala

- Uniktour offers you this exclusive 8-day discovery tour of beautiful and vibrant Guatemala, during which you will experience first hand the culture and history of this surprising country.

Guatemala has a reputation of having some of the most exciting celebrations surrounding the Holy Week. The most notorious ones take place in La Antigua, where you will have a unique opportunity to enjoy a spiritual and entertaining experience. The rest of your stay will be embellished by a broad choice of cultural and historical activities as well several visits of natural attractions. Among those will be the observation of the celebrations of Easter Week in picturesque Chichicastenango and the visit of Lake Atitlán and its surrounding volcanoes. Later on, the Mayan world will unveil only a few of its mysteries when visiting Tikal, by far the most impressive city left by this grandiose civilisation.

Some optional activities will also be offered on your free days, and they are not to be missed. In the Peten region, you will have a chance to go visit Yaxha if you are in need to learn a bit of history, or the Ixpanpajul National Park for a day full of nature and outdoor activities.

Day 1 | March 28th. (Sat.) International flight - Guatemala City Airport

Meeting at the airport and transfer to your hotel in Guatemala City. Overnight.

Day 2 | March 29th (Sun) Guatemala - Chichicastenango - Lake Atitlán

Breakfast. Departure to the Guatemalan highlands to visit Chichicastenanango, that sets up the most impressive, colorful and largest market in all Latin America. In the afternoon, we will continue to Lake Atitlán, considered by Aldous Huxley “the most beautiful lake in the world”, which is surrounded by three impressive volcanoes and 12 indigenous villages. Overnight.

Day 3 | March 30th (Mon) Lake Atitlan - Santiago - Flores

Breakfast. Morning boat ride to visit Santiago Atitlán, one of the Tzutuhil towns of the lake. Over the excursion, we will return to Guatemala City to board a short-regular flight to Flores, Petén. Transfer to your hotel in Petén. Overnight.

Day 4 | March 31st. (Tue) Flores - Tikal - Petén

Breakfast. We will visit Tikal National Park, a jewel of the Mayan Classic Period of this great civilization. Of all the Mayan sites, Tika is certainly the most impressive. The imposing height of the structures as they emerge from the jungle and the magical sounds of this enchanting forest make it easy to understand why Mayan priests still consider Tikal to be the most important sacred site of the empire. Lunch included. Transfer back to your hotel. Overnight.

Day 5 | April 1st. (Wed) Petén - La Antigua Guatemala

Breakfast. In the morning, transfer to the airport to fly back to Guatemala City. Meet and transfer to La Antigua. We will take a tour walking across its cobble stone streets as they used to be during the XVII century. We will stop by the Palace of the General Captains, churches La Merced, San Francisco and some other colonial places. The Agua Volcano will appear any time we walk around the colonial city. The rest of the afternoon is free for your own discoveries. Overnight.

Days 6 & 7 | April 2nd. And 3rd. (Thu. And Friday) – La Antigua (free days)

Breakfast daily. Both days are on your own to enjoy of many different activities prepared for the Holly Week: Processions, masses, festivities full of color! Overnight.

Day 8 | April 4th. (Sat) Guatemala City - Departure

Breakfast. Transfer to Guatemala City Airport – end of our services.

Day 1 | March 31st (Tue.) Guatemala City Airport - Guatemala

Meeting at the airport and transfer to your hotel in Guatemala City. Overnight.

Day 2 | April 1st. (Wed.) Guatemala - Chichicastenango

Breakfast. Departure to the Guatemalan highlands to visit Chichicastenanango, that sets up the most impressive, colorful and largest Market in all Latin America. During the afternoon, it is possible to observe processions and celebrations proper of the Easter week, very significant and special. Due to the native of the place, the most important indigenous people of the community are taking the Christian figures on their shoulders, dressed with the original outfits. This is another way to appreciate and live the Easter Week in Guatemala. Overnight.

Day 3. April 2nd (Thu) Chichicastenango - Santiago Atitlán - La Antigua

Breakfast. We will leave early in the morning to Lake Atitlán, considered by Aldous Huxley “the most beautiful lake in the world”. Lake Atitlán is surrounded by volcanoes and 12 indigenous villages. We will board a boat to visit the town of Santiago Atitlán. Over the excursion, we will continue to La Antigua, declared by UNESCO “Cultural Heritage of Human Kind”. Overnight.

Day 4 | April 3rd. (Fri) - La Antigua

Breakfast. During the morning we will visit La Antigua through its cobble Stone streets as they were during the XVII Century. We will visit the Palace of the Captains, Churches La Merced, San Francisco and some others colonial interest places. During the afternoon we will have the unique experience to see the various processions, Masses and celebrations plenty of color, specially prepared for Good Friday for all the Christians of the world.
Rest of the afternoon is on your own.
Overnight.

Day 5 | April 4th (Sat) - La Antigua (at leisure)

Easter Week in Guatemala.
Breakfast. We will have a day on our own to enjoy at the hotel or take an optional excursion to the Pacaya Volcano. Transfer to the slopes of the Volcano and will make an easy walk up at least 100 mts. near the crater. Pacaya Volcano is one of the 4 active volcanoes in Guatemala. Return to the hotel. Overnight.

Day 6 | April 5th (Sun) La Antigua - Tikal - Petén area

Breakfast. Today we will fly to Flores to visit Tikal National Park, a jewel of the Mayan classic culture. Picnic lunch at the site. Afternoon free. Overnight.

Day 7 | April 6th. (Mon) Petén Area - Guatemala

Breakfast. The morning is free to enjoy of optional activities (Yaxhá or Ixpanpajul). In the afternoon, transfer to the airport to fly back to Guatemala City. Transfer to the hotel. Overnight.

Day 8 | April 7th (Tue) - Guatemala City - Departure

Breakfast. Transfer to the airport to board flight back home. End of our services.
